The building pictured above is a church in Saginaw Michigan. I was just leaving the city and my dad pointed out this church. I almost didn't stop because I wanted to go home but I'm glad didn't. The unique architecture of the church made for some very cool pictures. I especially like "Tower" I think its a cool perspective shot of the church. One struggle I had was I had to get close to the church because there were power lines directly in front of it. So I couldn't get the whole building in one shot. But I think that pushed me to be more creative with my pictures. I was trying to convey uniqueness and beauty with these images the uniqueness and beuaty of this church is something you don't see in many buildings.
This is a building right as you come into downtown Saginaw. It is I think part of a band branch it is connected to the skyscraper pictured a few series below. I really was trying to convey a feeling of transparency and reflection no matter how many pictures I shot I couldn't see what was happening but the people inside could see me. All I could see was the reflection on the glass or bronze glass. I didn't have many struggles with these pictures and I think "Up the Glass" looks really cool because you can see the reflection of the glass in the windows.
This is a old rail bridge outside of downtown Saginaw. I saw this well crossing the river a ways away and knew I had to take a picture of it. I think the bridge looks really interesting and really throws you back many years. It brings back images of a simpler time. A piece of the pass in the present. It was hard to get a good angle on the bridge because my cameras zoom is horrible. I had to stand on railroad tracks and crawl down river banks to get the shots I wanted. I think the pictures turned and "Red Rails" is probably my favorite picture in this section.
This is the only picture that made the website that was not taken in Saginaw. This is the town hall of a small up north town called Onaway. My grandparents have a cabin up there so I was up there for the weekend. This town hall is really the best Onaway has to offer. People like to joke and call it "Onaway to nowhere". Besides this there is a baseball field a couple shops, two gas stations, and a couple of neighborhood. I was trying to convey a feeling of majesty I think the clock tower in the sky is probably one of the most majestic images. Its been taken a lot but it still looks amazing. I didn't really struggle with these pictures at all but I think "Clock in the Sky" turned out really good.
This is the building that I mentioned in the artist statement of the glass building. It amazes me how so drastically different buildings can be connected to each other. If I hadn't told you that they were connected you probably would have had no idea. My goal for this image was to convey a feeling of scale. This building really isn't even a true skyscraper less then 20 stories. Yet in person it is huge. It gives you the feeling of just how small you are. I was also really impressed with architecture of this building from the ornate windows to the molding on the outside. It shows how an otherwise boring building can be made interesting.
